What Each Remitly Transfer Status Means, and When to Act

What each Remitly transfer status means: Pending Funds, In Review, In Progress, Delivered, and when to contact Remitly

Last checked 10 October 2026

Remitly’s help centre defines seven transfer statuses. Pending Funds always needs you to act, and On Hold often does. The others mostly mean waiting, and Remitly says how long to wait before you contact it. Here is what each status means in Remitly’s own words, what to do, and when to stop waiting.

The seven statuses at a glance

StatusWhat it meansWhat you do
Pending FundsRemitly has not received your payment yetAct: complete the payment
In ReviewRemitly is checking the transferUsually wait. Answer any request within three days
On HoldRemitly may need something from youOpen the transfer: fix the details or upload a document if asked
In ProgressOn track for the promised delivery dateWait. Contact Remitly 48 hours after the promised time
Ready for PickupCash is waiting at a pickup locationRecipient collects with the reference number
DeliveredRemitly has paid it outIf nothing has arrived, contact Remitly after 48 hours
CanceledThe transfer will not be completedCheck the reason; you are refunded if you were charged

Six of these come from Remitly’s article on tracking a transfer, which reads the same on its German and US sites. The seventh, Pending Funds, is in its article on transfers that have not been delivered. Remitly spells it “Canceled”; we use its spelling for the status name.

What does Pending Funds mean?

Remitly’s definition: “we’re still waiting for you to pay for your transfer.” It tells you to follow the steps on the transfer details to complete the payment. Until Remitly has your money, nothing else happens.

This is the status people search for as “awaiting funds”. Remitly’s help centre does not use that phrase; Pending Funds is the status it describes for an unpaid transfer. Remitly ties it to bank transfer payments: the same section points to its guides on manual SEPA payments in France and bank transfer payments in the UK.

If your bank shows the money has left and Remitly still says Pending Funds, the payment has not reached Remitly yet. Check the payment details shown on the transfer, including any reference, then ask Remitly whether it has received the payment. Do not pay a second time while you wait.

What does In Review mean?

Remitly is checking that the transfer “complies with regulations and our user agreement”. It calls this “very common” and says it usually does not need anything more from you. In its article on transfers that have not arrived, it says a review “normally takes less than 24 hours”.

If Remitly does need something, it contacts you by phone, email or text message, and you upload documents through its Resolution Center. Answer quickly. Remitly says that if it asks for information and gets no response within three days, the transfer is canceled.

Two details help you spot a fake “Remitly” call while a transfer is in review:

  • Remitly says it will never ask you for a one-time passcode.
  • For customers in the EU and the UK, Remitly says it may call between 8am and 9pm on weekdays and between 9am and 9pm on Saturdays, and it will not call on Sundays.

What does On Hold mean?

Remitly’s tracking article defines it as “We need your help to complete your transfer”: you may need to correct the transfer details or upload documents to verify your identity. Open the transfer and read the reason it gives.

Remitly’s separate article on held transfers lists five reasons. Two need action from you; in the other three there is nothing to do but wait. We go through each one in why was my Remitly transfer cancelled, paused or put on hold.

What does In Progress mean, and how long is too long?

“Everything is on track! Your transfer is scheduled to arrive by the promised delivery date.” The date on your transfer is the one that counts.

Remitly lists the usual reasons an In Progress transfer runs late. Its local delivery provider may be confirming that money is available, its own system may still be processing, there may be a technical issue, or a weekend, bank holiday or local event such as severe weather may be delaying it. It says most of these are “resolved on their own in 24-48 hours”. If it is more than 48 hours past the promised delivery time and the money has not arrived, contact Remitly.

Remitly’s pages for senders in Germany also promise delivery on time “or we’ll refund your fees”. If yours is late, ask whether it qualifies. That refund covers the fee only. The money you sent is still on its way.

For transfers to Nigeria, we go through the usual causes of a long wait in why is my Remitly transfer to Nigeria still pending.

What does Ready for Pickup mean?

The cash is waiting for your recipient at their pickup location. They need the reference number to collect it. Remitly sends it to them by text, and if it did not arrive, they can ask you for it.

Remitly says pickup locations “can run out of money or change hours”. Until the cash is collected, you can edit the transfer to send it to another location or choose another delivery method. Do not leave it too long. Remitly says pickup locations usually give the recipient 60 days to collect before the transfer is canceled.

Delivered, but nothing has arrived

Remitly’s status means “Your money has been successfully delivered to your recipient.” That is Remitly’s side of the transfer. Its help centre says the recipient’s bank or the local delivery provider may still be processing it, and that “this is normal”. It says the money usually reaches the account within 48 hours, and that you should contact it if it has not arrived after 48 hours.

Do not send the money again in the meantime. If 48 hours pass, report it as a delivery problem with the reference number. We set out how to word that report, and where to escalate from the EU, the UK or the US, in Remitly says delivered but the money hasn’t arrived.

Why was my transfer canceled?

Remitly’s definition: “Your transfer can’t be completed and your money is being refunded if you were charged.” It gives five common reasons:

  1. It could not authorise your payment method.
  2. It could not verify your identity. The name, date of birth and address on your documents must match your Remitly profile.
  3. It asked for documents and did not get them within three days.
  4. It noticed unusual activity. If you also cannot sign in, Remitly says your profile has been locked.
  5. A cash pickup was not collected, usually within 60 days.

Fix the cause before you send again, or the next transfer will be canceled for the same reason. If a promised refund has not arrived, see the refunds section of our page on cancelled and held Remitly transfers.

Words that are not on Remitly’s list

  • “Awaiting funds”: not a status in Remitly’s help centre. The unpaid-transfer status it describes is Pending Funds, above.
  • “Pending”: Remitly’s general glossary uses pending, completed and canceled as broad terms. Its help centre’s list of statuses uses the more specific names above.
  • “Sending paused”: Remitly publishes no definition. We explain what it might mean, and what to check, in our page on cancelled, paused and held transfers.

If your screen shows wording that is not on this page, open the transfer details. Remitly’s text there is more specific than the label.

Where to find the status and the reference number

  • In the app: recent transfers are on the Home tab. Select one for its status and reference number, or select View all for your history.
  • On the website: sign in and choose Transfer history. You can filter for transfers in progress or delivered.
  • Messages: Remitly’s emails, texts and app notifications about a transfer include its reference number.
  • The reference number is at the top of the transfer details, right after the recipient’s name.
  • Transfer missing from your history? If you send to more than one country, open the Manage tab and change the destination country.

How we checked this

Read on 10 October 2026 on Remitly’s help centre for senders in Germany: “How can I track my Remitly transfer?”, for the six statuses, where to find them and the reference number (the US version lists the same six); “Why hasn’t my money been delivered?”, for Pending Funds, the 24-hour review time and the 48-hour waits; “Why is Remitly reviewing my transfer?” and “Why is Remitly asking for my info?”, for In Review, the one-time passcode warning and the calling hours; “Why is my transfer on hold?”, for the five hold reasons; and “Why was my transfer canceled?”, for the five reasons and the three-day and 60-day limits. Remitly’s Germany page for transfers to the Philippines carries the delivery-time promise. We made no test transfers. Remitly’s statuses and timings can differ by sending country, so check the version of the help centre for yours.
